Consolidating websites into kapott.io

I used to have a site in dutch, one in english and one separately for kapott. The idea here was that separation of concerns leads to focus for the specific site.

Lesson learnt. When you’re running a business and doing freelance work on top just carving out the time to write something becomes hard.

Why did you pick kapott.io and not your own name?

Because I really like my privacy. Every time I interact with something or someone on the internet I’m torn because on one hand I want to engage with people and get to know them and I want them to get to know me. On the other hand I know that giving out my real information opens up doxxing possibilities and most non-infosec people on the internet didn’t even know existed.

If you know what my real name is, it’s easy to find this site. If you only know my moniker, it’s a bit harder to find my real name. That’s all there is to it. Or, if you prefer to put it into geekier terms: I made sure the services that use my moniker are nodes with multiple interlinking edges whereas there is just a single edge from my real name to my moniker.

Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that hard to find out my real name. I just want to know someone put in effort when they tried to find my real name. My real name is not a secret. It’s just private information.

What is with the janky design on the blog?

That’s what you get when sprucing up a theme that I picked because it had a quirky ‘hacker vibe’ to it. You know, using a monospace font and all.

I spent about a day sprucing it up. I think it looks a lot better - but it’s still not entirely to my liking. If I had more time, I’d have built it from the ground up and go complete Massimo Vignelli on it.

Maybe I will redesign it some time in the future, though. For now I just have to approach it pragmatically and wing it with the current codebase.

Edit: As I was typing this I found out that the responsiveness on mobile was broken. Should at least be usable now.
